About the artist

Jane Anderson is a multi-skilled artist specialising in the production of original
cutting-edge contemporary art for modern spaces. Working in paint, pencil and digital media, Jane skilfully draws and paints what she sees around her.

People are her main inspiration. Their interaction, emotions, behaviour, and body language are a constant source of information and provide a foundation to her work.

Much of Jane’s work strives to create something beautiful in its simplicity. She opts to remove unnecessary background information, stripping the composition so it focuses the viewer’s gaze in immediate dialogue with the subject. She is also a great colourist and creates stunning combinations for her work.

Jane has shown work in the Birmingham Open and New Art Birmingham 2005 AND 2007, and in 2006 was selected by Channel 4 to exhibit for IDEASFACTORY at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

In February 2008 she created a large-scale commission for Crosby Lend Lease. The canvas panels are installed at i-Land, Southside, Birmingham, the largest residential development in the city. The work can be seen above the staircase in the main entrance hall. It was designed to mark the link between i-Land and the famous Flat Iron building in New York, the architecture that provided the inspiration for i-Land.

Jane has also led workshops for the BBC, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and throughout schools across the west midlands.
